New Facility Becomes Focal Point for Regional Connection Thousand Oaks, CA – Nestled between picturesque scenery and one of the world’s largest entertainment hubs, it’s hard to beat the location of Thousand Oaks. Now, the town with a top-notch setting is providing a whole new way for its residents to take advantage of their surroundings. In an effort to improve local connectivity to the region through public transit, the Thousand Oaks Transportation Center (TOTC), was opened for operation on Wednesday, October 15th. The new TOTC provides local residents with enhanced access to destinations throughout Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, and Ventura Counties.
The City of Thousand Oaks is juxtaposed half-way between Santa Barbara and Los Angeles; a geography that offers access to an array of opportunities unique to Southern California. The TOTC is, in turn, part of a regional plan to centralize local and county transit systems within the City in order to improve accessibility. The building hosts a number of regional transportation service providers, including Metro Bus, service to Warner Center, LADOT Commuter Express service to Downtown Los Angeles, and VISTA service throughout Ventura County. Local service will continue to be available to the TOTC, serviced by Thousand Oaks Transit (TOT). The facility also provides parking to a number of ridesharing commuters. The availability of public transportation is vital to the significant number of area residents that look to Greater Los Angeles, Santa Barbara and Ventura County for educational, entertainment, and work-related opportunities. Without accessible options for public transit to these areas, Thousand Oaks commuters are pitted against some of the worst freeway congestion in the nation. With ridership increasing from 140,123 passengers in 2005 to 182,333 in 2007 at its former building, the new TOTC is expanding its service capabilities to meet the needs of a growing customer base. The TOTC will feature a number of new and improved amenities including a comfortable passenger waiting area, restrooms, vending machines, and an ample number of secure parking spaces. In addition, ticket and pass purchasing offices will be located at the facility to enhance the overall travel experience. While making travel more convenient for passengers, the new TOTC building also complies with the latest in environmental standards. This facility will be the City’s first certified Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) building, meeting the nationally recognized standards that help buildings maximize performance, while reducing negative environmental impacts. The TOTC is conveniently located at 265 S. Rancho Road, just off the 101 Freeway. Hours of operation for the TOTC are 6am to 7pm Monday through Friday, and 9am to 5pm on Saturday. For more information about the Thousand Oaks Transportation Center, please call (805) 375-5473 or email TOTransit@toaks.org. |
