Holiday Collection Services

Holiday Collection Schedule
There will be no interruptions to the regular trash and recycling service schedule the week following Christmas Day (12/25/2010) and New Year's Day (1/1/2011).

Please contact
Waste Management at (805) 522-9400 or Newbury Disposal at (800) 418-7274, if you have any questions.

Recycle Your Tree Curbside
Please recycle your tree by cutting it half and placing it in your yard trimmings cart on your scheduled pick-up day. Be sure to remove all decorations, including ornaments, tinsel, lights, and tree stand. Trees collected in the curbside program will be mulched for reuse throughout the City.

Extra Trash Collection
As a special holiday feature, Thousand Oaks residents may place twice the amount of trash and recyclables at the curb during the two weeks following Christmas (December 26 through January 8) at no extra charge.  Please bag or bundle everything -- no loose trash please!  If you have one 64-gallon trash cart, you may place the equivalent of a second cart at the curb for removal by the disposal company.  Please flatten all cardboard boxes which may be placed next to your recycling cart.

No Waste Gift Giving Ideas
Here are a few ideas and suggestions on how to have a more environmentally friendly holiday season.

  • Wrap gifts in creative wrapping paper substitutes such as decorated brown paper grocery bags, children's art work, old maps, newspapers, Sunday comics, or fancy holiday gift bags that can be reused.

  • If you use traditional wrapping, look for recycled-content wrapping paper.
When giving oversized gifts like bicycles or CD racks, instead of using wrapping, simply tie a bow around them.

  • Think of gifts that don't require wrapping, like tickets to concerts, sporting events, museums, gift certificates, house plants, or even gifts of your own time.

  • If you send holiday cards, buy recycled content cards and envelopes.
