Volunteers in Policing

The Volunteers in Policing (VIP) program currently has over 80 active members who provide ancillary support to police personnel assigned to the Thousand Oaks Police Department. The VIP's issue parking citations, respond to selected report calls, conduct vacation house checks, and most recently have been trained to assist with residential security surveys. VIP members must attend the Citizen Academy, VIP Academy, and then receive training both inside the classroom and out in the field.

Those VIP's not interested in the patrol function may participate at the Resource Centers, providing valuable services to the community in the form of fingerprinting and dispensing information.

VIP members contribute an average of 35,000 hours per year to the program.

The Police Department is proud of the volunteers
and their efforts to  maintain the safety and quality of life in Thousand Oaks.
