Martin Based on the play "Breath of Spring" by Peter Coke, Adaptation by Joe Masteroff. Ostensibly about the residents of a senior citizens' hotel who become shoplifters to buy the building before it is sold to developers.  What it really is about is staying alive and enjoying every minute.  Like their "Chicago" and "Cabaret," the story is a frame to hold Kander & Ebb's winning honky-tonk vaudeville score.  If you don't come into the theater humming "Coffee in a Cardboard Cup," "Home" or "Broadway My Street," you will when you leave . . . joyfully!  40th Anniversary Production. WAY --We are often asked: "So what exactly is a 'concert staged reading' and why are the actors holding their scripts?"  First, let us explain what our mission is.  The Musical Theatre Guild was founded over thirteen years ago by a dedicated group of professional musical artists who were interested in exploring and preserving works from the musical theatre repertoire that were either forgotten, neglected or unfairly dismissed. Our goal is to gather the finest talent available and to present the work in as close to the original form as possible.  In order to do that within our budgets and to keep ticket prices at a reasonable level, we have found that the concert staged reading form works best.  Our special agreement with Actors’ Equity allows us to focus on the script and the score, eliminate unnecessary production values, and streamline the entire rehearsal process into one focused long weekend.  This enables us to take the risk to present works that other theatres would not dream to schedule and feature some of the finest talent in Southern California on our stage.
